A ribbon blender is a versatile and widely used industrial mixing equipment designed for the thorough blending of dry powders, granules, and other bulk materials. It gets its name from the ribbon-like, helical agitators (blades) that are mounted on a horizontal shaft inside a U-shaped trough or drum.
The dry powders or granules to be mixed are loaded into the ribbon blender through a top-mounted charging port or hopper.
The ribbon blender is equipped with a motor that drives the horizontal shaft with ribbon-like agitators. As the motor rotates the shaft, the agitators move the material in two directions simultaneously: axial (lengthwise) and radial (across the width of the trough).
The dual-direction blending action of the ribbon agitators efficiently mixes the materials. The outer ribbon moves the material from the ends of the trough toward the center, while the inner ribbon moves the material from the center toward the ends. This combination ensures thorough blending.
The blending process continues for a predetermined duration to achieve the desired level of homogeneity.
After blending is complete, the mixed material can be discharged from the ribbon blender through a bottom-mounted discharge port.
Ribbon blenders are designed for easy cleaning and maintenance, with features like removable agitators and accessible interiors.
